Mangaluru: Belthangady police on Friday issued a third notice directing activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody to appear before the investigation officer in connection with a first information report (FIR) against him under the Arms Act. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) officers.Since Thimarody, who is involved in the protests demanding justice for the rape and murder of Sowjanya, against whom an externment order was issued, was not available, police pasted the notice on the wall of his house. Belthangady police issued a first notice to Thimarody on Sept 19 asking him to appear before police on Sept 21. After he failed to appear before the investigation officer on the day, a second notice was issued asking Thimarody to appear before the officer on Sept 25. As he again failed to appear for the second notice, police have issued a third notice asking him to appear on Sept 29.Meanwhile, the bail application filed by Thimarody before the principal district and sessions court in Mangaluru will be heard on Sept 27 for the filing of objections by the govt.It may be recalled that on Aug 26, the SIT officers, with a search warrant issued from a court, had conducted a search at Thimarody's house in Ujire village. During the search, the team reportedly recovered several items from his house. Following this, Belthangady police registered a case under sections 25(1)(1-A) and 25(1)(1-B)(a) of the Arms Act against Thimarody.
