Uttar Pradesh: The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, had launched the Mission Shakti 5.0 on Sunday, i.e., September 21. On Tuesday, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, Rajeev Krishna, outlined comprehensive guidelines for establishing Mission Shakti centres in all police stations across the state. The mission was launched on October 17, 2020, for the first time and has been ongoing since then. Yogi Adityanath, in the launch of 5.0, said that it had given women a road to safety, respect, and independence. He even highlighted that the positive results of the mission today are seen everywhere. The Mission Shakti 5.0 will operate in every police station of the state. According to the new comprehensive directives given by UP DGP, Rajeev Krishna, each centre's head will be the sub-inspector or an office-in-charge. The priority will be given to women, with the additional support of one to four sub-inspectors, along with 4 to 15 constables. It's mandatory to have a minimum of 50 per cent participation of women. What's the responsibility of Mission Shakti centers? The centers of Mission Shakti 5.0 will be functioning in each police station of Uttar Pradesh. The core responsibility or aim of the mission is to register complaints from women, conduct investigations of serious or sensitive cases, and sustain proper FIR records. The centres must run prevention activities like self-defence classes, women beat plans, and anti-romeo squads. What are the responsibilities of officers? The Inspector General of Police (IGPs) are responsible for working as change agents, and the zonal Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) is to act as the supervisor for the mission. The police commissioners and district superintendents must ensure the appointment of APS-level nodal officers, too. The centre-in-charges are responsible for ensuring activities related to staffing and resourcing. They have to look for cases that demand special attention and make sure that Mission Shakti's in-charge mobile number is provided at the village level for better accessibility. The Assistant Police Commissioners (ASPs) are responsible for working as assistant nodal officers. In addition, Police Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, and Deputy Superintendents are also to be appointed for smooth functioning. Station house officers are directed to develop dedicated rooms with basic infrastructural facilities, including a women's toilet, to make sure that the centres become functional within two weeks of the launch.
