NEW DELHI: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Monday that regulation has to keep pace with the adoption of AI. "Artificial intelligence is not static. It is a rapidly progressing, real-time dynamic thing. Therefore, all of us will have to be conscious that we don't sit back on the ethics," Sitharaman said at the launch of govt think tank Niti Aayog's report titled "AI for Viksit Bharat: The Opportunity for Accelerated Economic Growth.""We need to be clear that regulation has to run the race equally as much as the technology is running it. If the technology is on a sprint, the regulation has to be on the sprint too," said Sitharaman, adding that AI not only poses a challenge for jobs but also how the technology can be used for "not so betterment" of society. She said that AI should be "kept under our reins" for the common good."India is a country which can understand the implication of a good which comes our way, although a good is never unmitigated, a good is never without riders, a good is never-on its own-good, it is for us all to use in such a way that it is for the common good," she said, indicating the need to prevent the misuse of such technologies.
