Ahmedabad: The Gujarat State Examination Board has announced that the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for special educators of differently-abled students in govt primary schools will be held on Oct 12. The exam will be conducted in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot.This year, 2,206 candidates registered for TET-1 (for Classes 1 to 5), while 1,932 candidates registered for TET-2 (for Classes 6 to 8). The TET-1 exam will be held from 11am to 1pm, and TET-2 from 3pm to 5pm.In 2023, the first Special Teacher Eligibility Test was conducted, but only 157 candidates qualified against a requirement of nearly 3,000 teachers, leaving most vacancies unfilled. To address this gap, the board is conducting the exam again this year.The online registration process was open from Aug 8 to 19. The upcoming exam aims to fill the backlog of special educator posts and ensure inclusive education for students with disabilities.Additionally, the board has planned four major exams -- TET and TAT for primary, secondary, and higher secondary teachers -- between Dec 2025 and Feb 2026. The notification for TET-1 is expected to be released soon.
