New Delhi: In the Vantara Wildlife Centre case of Jamnagar, Gujarat, the Supreme Court has asked if someone wants to keep an elephant and does so by following all the rules, then what is wrong with it? The court said this while completing the hearing of the case on Monday, September 15, 2025. However, the court has not passed any order yet. The report of the Special Investigation Team was also presented in today's hearing. A PIL was filed in the Supreme Court demanding a thorough investigation into illegal wildlife transfer and illegal captivity of elephants in Vantara. In the hearing on August 25, the court directed the formation of an SIT to investigate these allegations. The SIT includes former Supreme Court judge Justice J. Chelameswar, former Chief Justice of Uttarakhand and Telangana High Court Raghavendra Chauhan, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagarale and senior IRS officer Anish Gupta. The bench of Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Prasanna Varale praised the SIT for submitting the report in such a short time. Senior advocate Harish Salve, who appeared for Vantara, said that we do not want the entire report to be made public. Many people in the world have business rivalry with us. They can misuse it.
