Bengaluru: Amid growing speculation over the potential location of a second international airport in Bengaluru, Infrastructure Minister MB Patil clarified on Tuesday that no final decision has been made, and the government is aiming to at least have some clarity about the location by next week. Speaking in the state assembly, Patil emphasised that ongoing surveys would determine the most suitable site, with the final location to be confirmed only after assessments are complete. Patil stated that the Infrastructure Development Corporation Karnataka Ltd (IDeCK) is currently conducting surveys on various proposed sites to identify the optimal location. Once the surveys are finished, the findings will be submitted to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), which will have the final say on the matter. "The survey will consider factors such as connectivity, proximity to key areas, and environmental impact, as the new airport is expected to serve millions of passengers," Patil explained. He added that the government aims to provide some clarity on the airport site within the next week. Potential sites under consideration for new airport in Bengaluru Several locations have emerged as potential site to serve as Bengaluru's second airport, with reports suggesting that the area between Dabaspet and Kunigal, along National Highway 75, is being seriously considered. Karnataka's Home Minister G Parameshwara also noted that Tumkuru, including Kunigal, is under evaluation. The Tumkuru region, set to become one of Asia's largest industrial hubs, already hosts over 150 industries, including a helicopter manufacturing facility by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). With plans for a Japanese township in the area, it is seen as a strategic choice for the new airport. However, other areas such as Ramanagara, Bidadi, and Harohalli are also in the running, making the competition for the location intense, but a clear idea about the potential location for Bengaluru's second airport would only be clear after the survey completes.
