Chennai/Trichy: TVK president Vijay stepped up his attack on DMK and chief minister M K Stalin on Sunday, while thanking his party cadres for the 'love and support' during his maiden campaign in Trichy. In a statement on Sunday, Vijay hit out at Stalin for his remarks that 'new enemies' were emerging to take on DMK, but those enemies who lack ideologies would be also defeated. "It is not new for heartless DMK to degrade ideological rivals by slandering them as non-principled," Vijay said."Those who once spread stories that Vijay would never step out or meet people are now complaining in different ways," said the actor-politician. Referring to Stalin's letter, he added, "Their lament has already been admitted in advance through that so-called 'grand festival' statement." Vijay also alleged duplicity in alliances. "They talk about ideology outside, but keep ties with the BJP inside. People have begun to understand this," he said.He said DMK had even criticised AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran as a person who lacked political understanding. "They spewed venom even on a leader such as MGR who came with a massive people's support that he was facing polls with mere cinematic popularity," Vijay said. "Hence, it was not surprising for DMK to attack TVK, which is entering the polls as a primary force with the support of women, youth and people," he said. Earlier, Vijay said he was moved by the love and support of the people during his campaign in Trichy and Ariyalur. He apologised to cadres at Perambalur for skipping the venue due to delay. Crowds that had assembled since evening dispersed after waiting till 1am. Meanwhile, anonymous posters appeared across Perambalur on Sunday criticising Vijay's campaign style. Messages read, "Politics is not a weekend party, it is a 24/7 duty", "Is this a political yatra or your weekend getaway?", and "Politics is not a weekend trip, it is a full-time job."
