Ferozepur: The district police have foiled an attempt at cross-border smuggling of narcotics on Sunday. Acting on a specific input, the police nabbed a drug smuggler and recovered 15.775 kg of heroin smuggled through floodwater by Pakistan-based drug smugglers.Giving information on X, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the police arrested Sonu Singh, a resident of the border village Habibwala in Ferozepur, and recovered 15.775 kg of heroin from him. According to police officials, the initial investigation revealed that the drug smuggling network was operated by an inmate lodged in the Kapurthala jail in a case under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police said the drug consignment was sent by smugglers based in Pakistan.The police registered an FIR in the matter, and further investigation was ongoing to expose the entire network. According to officials, the police were investigating the case from various angles. The police officials claimed that further investigations are being conducted to establish forward and backward linkages to identify other members involved in the module and track the origins of the smuggled narcotics.
