Lucknow: A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight (6E 2111) was forced to abort takeoff just two seconds after beginning its rollout on the runway at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow on Saturday morning, following a major technical issue detected by the pilots. The aircraft, carrying 171 passengers and six crew members, was scheduled to depart at 11.10 am. However, after the aborted takeoff, it returned to the bay for further inspection. One of the passengers onboard, Amit Singh from Jhansi, shared his experience on social media platform X. "6E2111 take-off aborted at the runway within two seconds. Again stating technical issues. Flying in India is getting concerning day by day. Pathetic Indigo. (sic)" Attempts to reach Amit for further comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. Another passenger, Aditya Kapoor from Lucknow, described the incident to TOI. "Within 2-3 seconds of the aircraft gaining speed, we heard a loud explosion. The pilots immediately applied brakes, and everyone onboard felt the sudden jolt. The aircraft was then moved back to the bay." Kapoor initially suspected a tire burst but found no visible damage. A ground crew member later informed him that the issue was related to the engine. "I'm thankful to the IndiGo pilots for making the right decision. Had they continued, it could have been a repeat of the AI171 crash in Ahmedabad," he added. An official source familiar with the incident confirmed the severity of the issue, saying, "It appears the aircraft's engine developed a significant fault. The pilots made the prudent decision to abandon takeoff rather than risk flying with over 170 lives onboard." IndiGo refused to release an official statement regarding the incident. Later, IndiGo arranged another aircraft for the passengers, and it departed for Delhi at 1.28 pm and landed safely at 2.12 pm.

Both engines of the aircraft failed at the same time. This is the first confirmation backed by real data. A Wall Street Journal report earlier hinted at a dual-engine failure. But it left room for doubt. The NYT ...Read More >
