Bengaluru: The three-day 11th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference, which concluded Saturday, adopted resolutions urging legislatures to curb disruptions and deadlock in Houses, while calling for strengthening the research and reference branches of state legislatures to improve the quality of debates.Addressing a press conference, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, "The resolutions will eliminate deadlock and disruption in legislative houses, allowing more time for legislators to discuss public welfare issues. Effective discussions should be conducted in Parliament and assemblies. Even if ideologies differ, we must work to strengthen the democratic system. The time of the Houses should be used wisely. All presiding officers, members, and political parties should work together to reduce opposition and disruptions in the House."Four resolutions were adopted, which aim to build public trust in the democratic system. Speakers and chairpersons from 26 states attended the conference, which began on Sept 11."All elected representatives should uphold the dignity and decorum of the House.
