Hyderabad: Telangana continues to be hit hard by continuous heavy to very heavy rains, causing rivers and streams to overflow, inundating low-lying areas, and cutting off road access in several districts. The extreme weather has disrupted normal life, damaged infrastructure, and posed threat to residents, prompting authorities to issue warnings and prepare for further rainfall in the coming days. By 8.30 am on Friday, several districts had already recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall in the previous 24 hours. Huzurabad in Karimnagar district reported the highest at 221 mm, followed by Mallampally in Mulugu with 217 mm, and Chigurumamidi in Karimnagar at 215 mm. Other areas including Mootakondur (161 mm), Medak mandal (160 mm), and Dhoolmitta (152 mm) also recorded heavy showers.On Friday morning, at least eight tractors carrying sand were swept away by the fast-rising waters of the Maneru stream near Tekumatla in Bhupalpally district. A total of 11 tractors had gathered between Garmillapalli and Odedu villages to collect sand for Indiramma housing projects when flash floods hit the area. Fortunately, the drivers were rescued and no casualties were reported. The Telangana Development Planning Society confirmed moderate rainfall across several districts between 8.30 am and 6 pm on Friday, with Utkoor in Narayanpet district receiving the highest at 56.5 mm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms at most places in Telangana over the next few hours. A heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Saturday for districts such as Nirmal, Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy, with isolated areas expected to receive very heavy downpours.
