Lucknow: Sounding a word of caution for the Election Commission of India (ECI) over "vote chori", Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday suggested that if plunder of votes continues, people may take to streets drawing parallels with the Gen Z unrest in Nepal.Without naming Nepal or the Gen Z upheaval, Akhilesh said it was the responsibility of the EC to ensure that votes are not plundered. We kept on sending complaints to the ECI (but in vain)," he said adding: "Similarly Rampur election win was snatched away from us." Akhilesh recalled how, during bypolls in Ayodhya, a fake voter who turned out to be an associate of a minister, was nabbed. "The man revealed that 5000 people had come from outside for Ayodhya polls ... people from Amethi, Tiloi and adjoining areas were brought to Ayodhya ... the man who was nabbed had himself admitted (all this) ...," Akhilesh said. Senior SP functionaries said it was not only in Nepal that people have taken to streets to protest against rampant corruption.
