Lucknow: The facility for the registration of vintage motor vehicles is now available in UP. The state govt is preparing a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) for vintage vehicles' registration in the state. Until the final SOP is approved by govt, registrations will be done as per notification of the Union ministry of road transport and highway (MoRTH).Transport commissioner, UP, Brajesh Narain Singh said, "Vintage registration is not for daily or commercial use. It is meant to preserve the vehicle's original technical configuration and to maintain orderly record-keeping."Vehicles that are treated as 'vintage' include two-wheelers L1/L2 and four-wheelers M1 (car class), those more than 50 years old from the date of first registration after the first sale and are in their original form with no substantial modification in the chassis/body shell/engine. Vintage registration is not automatic, as not every vehicle older than 50 years becomes vintage automatically. Registration as vintage will be done only with the owner's consent. Owners who wish to re-register in the normal category may do so through the normal process.New registration or issue of RC as vintage costs Rs 20,000, while re-registration or renewal of Vintage RC costs Rs 5,000. This arrangement will remain in force until the state govt issues any separate order.A Vintage RC is valid for 10 years and is renewable every five years. Vintage vehicles are exempt from the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) rule. People need to apply for vintage registration at their Regional Transport Office (RTO/ARTO).
