Navi Mumbai: Activists have welcomed the new Supreme Court order on stray dogs but have expressed caution regarding the term "aggressive" dogs since there is no clear definition for it, and hope that it is not misused to imprison any street dogs.Roshan Pathak, an animal rights advisor of Pure Animal Lovers (PAL) Foundation, said, "Supreme Court has ensured that Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules of 2023 are implemented, which means that stray dogs will be kept back to their local areas after being sterilised. This had been our demand since clearing all dogs and putting them in animal shelters is practically unfeasible and cruel."Pathak added, "For the last 12 days, animal lovers protested across the country against the earlier court order of confining all dogs in shelters. In the new apex court order, it says that 'aggressive dogs' along with rabid ones are to be taken off streets. But there is no clear definition of what is an aggressive dog and this point should not be misused to put healthy dogs in jail."Shaurya Agarwal of PETA India evocatively said, "They say every dog has her day, and today is the day for Sheru at the tea stall, Rani at the mandir steps, and Moti in the society grounds.
