Kendrapara: Odisha Vigilance Nabs Co-operative Society Secretary for Bribery | News Room Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Dhirendra Mohanty, Secretary of Mahu Co-operative Society, Aul, Kendrapara, was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance today while accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a loanee farmer. Mohanty demanded the bribe to release a loan passbook and cheque book for an agricultural loan of Rs. 75,000, sanctioned on August 12, 2025, to the complainant and his father. According to the complainant, a poor farmer, Mohanty had been delaying the handover of the documents despite repeated requests. Initially, Mohanty demanded Rs. 20,000, but after negotiations, reduced the bribe to Rs. 10,000, threatening to withhold the documents unless paid by August 20, 2025. Frustrated by the harassment, the complainant reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance. Acting swiftly, Vigilance officials set up a trap and caught Mohanty red-handed while accepting the bribe. The entire sum of Rs. 10,000 was recovered and seized from his possession. Simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Mohanty to investigate potential disproportionate assets. A case has been registered against Mohanty under Cuttack Vigilance.
