COIMBATORE: A couple and their two-month-old grandson died on the spot after a truck collided head-on with the car in which they were travelling on L&T Bypass Road near Madukkarai in Coimbatore district on Thursday morning. The daughter-in-law, who sustained severe injuries, was admitted to a hospital where she is battling for life. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior Congress leader and former KPCC president Thennala Balakrishna Pillai passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. He was 95. He died at Ananthapuri Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment for age-related health issues. His body will be taken to his residence at Mukkola, Nettayam, for the public to pay their respects. Born on 11 March 1930 in Sooranad, Kollam, Pillai was elected twice to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Adoor constituency in 1977 and 1982. Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy rain accompanied by strong winds will lash isolated places in Kerala till July 20. As per the alert, heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 7-20 cm is expected in the state from July 14 to 20. IMD has sounded yellow and orange alerts in several districts.
