Nagpur: Former MLA and Prahar Janshakti Party leader Bachchu Kadu will challenge his conviction in Bombay high court after a Mumbai special court found him guilty of assaulting an IAS officer at the secretariat in 2019.On Tuesday, the court sentenced Kadu to three months in prison after finding him guilty under Sections 353 (use of criminal force to deter public servant), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 504 (intentional insult) of the Indian Penal Code. His sentence was suspended, and bail was granted to allow him to file an appeal.Talking to TOI, Kadu said his lawyers would approach the high Ccourt "probably in the next couple of weeks." He maintained the incident spiralled from protests against alleged irregularities in the state's recruitment exams."Between 2017 and 2018, during the Mahayuti govt's tenure, the tender for conducting direct recruitment examinations was awarded to a private company through MahaPariksha portal," he said. "This process also involved a company blacklisted for its role in Madhya Pradesh's Vyapam scam."According to Kadu, the examinations were "highly opaque." Question papers were leaked, mass copying was rampant, and the standard of questions deteriorated to the extent that trivial queries like 'Who is the lead actress in Sairat?' were being asked, he said. "Job racketeers across Maharashtra were taking bribes for appointments, many exam centres faced severe technical glitches, and candidates were even using mobile phones to solve papers," he told TOI.
