Hyderabad: Amid the ongoing uncertainty regarding when the state govt will receive funds from the Centre for the Metro phase-II project, preparations have gathered pace in the Old City.In addition to demolitions and the disbursement of compensation, activities that have been underway for over five months, officials have begun identifying locations for the construction of concrete pillars for the elevated corridor, marking a significant development.Several such locations have already been identified along the 7.5 km stretch between Darulshifa and Chandrayangutta, marked with circles and corresponding numbers on the road surface."Each pillar needs to be spaced 20 metres apart, so approximately 375 pillars will be constructed for the project," said an official from Hyderabad Metro rail limited (HMRL).Officials stated that work on the pillars would commence once the road-widening work is completed, and the underground sewage system is diverted and overhead electric cables are cleared."The sewage system here is a bit complicated as it is multi-directional. It's crucial to re-route the pipelines to prevent any damage during construction. We are currently studying the direction of the pipelines, and the entire process should be completed within a year," said Mohd Nazeer Ahmed, an official with the Hyderabad metropolitan water supply and sewerage board (HMWSSB).Out of 410 properties, demolition works were completed for 380. Compensation totaling 360 crore has already been disbursed to affected property owners. Most demolitions were carried out at night to avoid traffic congestion.
