RAIPUR: Some selfie crazy youths in a forested village in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district had a narrow escape when a wild tusker menacingly advanced towards them when they were filming it. The incident took place near the village of Ganeshpur under Pratappur forest range, officials said on Sunday. The forest officials issued a warning to the forest dwellers and others not to risk their lives by going close to the wild animals in the forest to take selfies after the video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video clip, two youths were seen taking selfies with a wild elephant coming behind them. The tusker was later seen in the video getting angry and advancing menacingly towards them while trumpeting. Some people, not seen in the video, were heard shouting at the pachyderm leading it to take a turn and head for the forest, thus saving the lives of the two youths who were about to be trampled by the tusker. Surajpur divisional forest officer (DFO) Pankaj Kamar said three wild elephants were spotted in the area and one of them got separated from the herd. An elephant separated from the herd usually is in a foul mood. He said the viral video is being verified to find out exactly at which place the incident took place. The forest officer said a campaign has been launched in the area by his staff to generate awareness among the people on the danger of going close to the wild animals, particularly the elephants in the forest, to take selfies
