Amritsar: Will the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) permit the rebel faction of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to hold a meeting of its delegates at Teja Singh Samundri Hall, located within the SGPC complex, on August 11 to elect the party president?"We have written to the SGPC, requesting permission to hold a meeting of our delegates at Teja Singh Samundri Hall to elect the president of the SAD," said Gurpartap Singh Wadala, a member of the seven-member committee -- now reduced to five -- constituted by the Akal Takht jathedar on Dec 2 last year.When asked whether he was hopeful that the SGPC would allow them to use Teja Singh Samundri Hall, given that a majority of the SGPC members were aligned with the Sukhbir Singh Badal-led SAD, Wadala said they were acting entirely on the directions of the Akal Takht and therefore, there should be no reason to deny them the use of the hall.Notably, according to the Dec 2 Akal Takht edict, a seven-member committee was constituted by the high priests and it was directed to reorganise the SAD by beginning a membership drive and then elect its office bearers and president. The committee was constituted under the chairmanship of SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami and included former SGPC chief Kripal Singh Badungar, Iqbal Singh Jhundan, Gurpartap Singh Wadala, Manpreet Singh Ayalee, Santa Singh Umaidpuri, and Bibi Satwant Kaur as members.
