JAMMU, Aug 1: Jammu Kashmir Teachers Joint Action Committee has submitted a memorandum to Director School Education Jammu highlighting some genuine issues directly related to raising standard of education in Government schools. In the memorandum, JKTJAC has sought relieving teachers from all sorts of non teaching assignments like BLOs, Census duty and other surveys as this is the root cause of suffering of studies of the students and also one of the causes of decrease in enrollment in many schools. JKTJAC has also demanded handing over Mid-day Meals Scheme to NGOs/PRIs so that the teachers may focus only on teaching and made be accountable for better results. JKTJAC has further said that unnecessary online portals be stopped as teachers have to remain on mobile phones for operating them daily and therefore they are left with less time to attend the students. "Atleast two teachers be kept in each Primary school and six teachers in each Middle school to improve the standard of education at elementary level while rationalisation of teaching staff may very kindly be started from urban areas where staff is excess and Primary and Middle schools of rural areas be provided with adequate staff to make the foundation strong at elementary level and proposal must be routed through concerned ZEOs instead of Principals as they (Principals) give priorities to the HSS and High Schools instead of Primary / Middle schools," reads the memorandum. JKTJAC has also suggested that instead of going ahead to de- freeze the posts of teachers, Government should go for creation of posts of teachers which has not been done for the schools opened and upgraded under SSA scheme as strength of required cadre is much higher than the posts created and this will redress the issues of teachers already working in the department and aspirants seeking job in Education Department.
