Shimla: The cumulative loss of human lives during the ongoing monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh, between June 20 and July 19, has reached 119, even as 34 persons are still missing.Out of the total casualties till Saturday, 78 were directly attributed to monsoon disasters, including 14 in cloudbursts, eight in flash floods, 12 in drowning, and others in lightning, landslides, and electrocution. Forty-nine persons lost their lives due to road accidents during this period across the state.Mandi district recorded the maximum number of 14 deaths due to cloudbursts; seven people lost their lives due to flash floods in Kangra district, and one in Kullu district. The hill state recorded 34 incidents of flash floods, 22 cloudbursts, and 21 major landslides in less than one month. The highest number of 15 cloudbursts was reported in Mandi district, while the maximum 13 flash flood incidents were recorded in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti, followed by 10 in Mandi district.As many as 146 roads, including 94 in Mandi district, remained blocked across the state due to incessant rains till Saturday evening, while 58 water supply schemes are still disrupted.Status of Dams (BOX)The water level in all the dams in Himachal Pradesh was within the permissible operational limits on Saturday evening. There are 25 dams in the state - 10 in the Beas basin, six in the Satluj basin, seven in the Ravi basin, and two in the Yamuna basin. Two hydel power projects on the dams in the Beas basin - Sainj Barrage and Parbati-II - were shut as a precautionary measure following high silt levels.
