Lucknow: At least nine people lost their lives due to drowning while one died from snake bite in the state on Friday. In addition, two people in Mahoba were crushed to death after their house fell on them due to heavy rain on Thursday.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the deaths and directed officials to keep a close watch in all districts that were prone to flooding or where heavy rains were predicted.A govt spokesperson said with many rivers in spate, there were reports of one person drowning in Mahoba, five in Chitrakoot and three in Bijnor. In addition to this, one person died from a snake bite in Prayagraj. A day earlier, when heavy rain was reported in Mahoba district, a house collapsed in Sirjhari village, killing two people and injuring another two.In view of the heavy rain, thunder and hail storms reported from some districts, the CM directed officials to carry out relief and rescue measures wherever needed. He instructed officials to carry out routine ground inspections and keep a watch on the rising levels of rivers that could lead to flooding or waterlogging.Yogi also expressed his sympathy for those families who lost their loved ones due to weather-related incidents.Local administration and revenue department officials have been asked to carry out a survey of fields to assess crop damage or loss of life, livestock or property, and submit a report to the govt so that necessary financial aid can be provided.
