Chandigarh: In its ongoing war against drugs, the Punjab Police on Saturday arrested 86 drug smugglers and recovered 1.5 kg of heroin and Rs 45,700 in drug money from their possession.In the last 140 days, police have arrested 22,626 drug smugglers.Arpit Shukla, special DGP (law and order), informed that over 180 police teams, comprising over 1,200 police personnel under the supervision of 81 gazetted officers, conducted raids at 393 locations across the state, leading to the registration of 64 FIRs. Police teams also checked as many as 434 suspicious persons during the day-long operation, he said.Shukla said with the state govt enforcing a three-pronged strategy -- enforcement, de-addiction, and prevention -- to eradicate drugs from the state, the Punjab Police convinced 53 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation.
