Guwahati: In a significant step towards combating drug abuse and reducing the supply of narcotics in Mizoram, Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated two new Excise & Narcotics Stations at Saitual and Khawzawl, the newly established district capitals in the eastern part of the state. This initiative reflects the government's unwavering commitment to tackling the drug menace and providing effective remedies for addicted youth. Many of the drugs trafficked into Mizoram flow from neighbouring Myanmar, posing a grave challenge to the state's efforts to address this crisis. Since taking office on 8th December last year, Chief Minister Lalduhoma has prioritized this issue. On the very day of his swearing-in, he visited a privately-run deaddiction center before heading home, demonstrating his dedication to this cause. Under his leadership, the government has convened several consultation meetings with NGOs, churches, and relevant departments to devise strategies for both supply and demand reduction. As part of this comprehensive approach, amendments to existing laws are also underway to enhance enforcement mechanisms. The inauguration of these stations at Saitual and Khawzawl is a key move in strengthening the state's capacity to curb the supply of narcotics. Additionally, a new Excise & Narcotics Station at Hnahthial is set to be inaugurated on Thursday by Excise & Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar. The government's holistic approach to addressing the drug crisis underscores its commitment to protecting the youth and fostering a drug-free Mizoram. Nagpur: More than 260 children have found their way back home over the past 16 months thanks to Operation Nanhe Farishte, an initiative run by Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the Central Railway's Nagpur division. The initiative focuses on spotting and saving children who've run away, been trafficked, gone missing, or been abandoned at railway platforms and trains.From January 2024 to April 2025, RPF teams rescued 239 children -- 116 boys and 85 girls in 2024, and 15 boys and 23 girls so far in 2025.
