Pune: A farmer (45) from Maval taluka was arrested on Thursday on the charge of raping a 33-year-old daily wage worker on July 15.The incident occurred when the woman was walking home in the afternoon. Finding her alone, the man forcibly took her into the forest area along the road and raped her.After discussions with the family members and leaders from her community, the rape survivor approached the Pune Rural police on the night of July 16 and lodged a complaint. "We arrested the farmer, Balu Shirke (45), within 24 hours," superintendent of police, Pune, Sandeep Singh Gill said.Assistant police inspector Prashant Aware of the Pune Rural police said the woman was a daily wage worker. When she was walking home on July 15, the suspect followed her on his motorcycle. He dragged her into the forest area along the road and raped her.The terrified woman went home and narrated her ordeal to her family members. "Her family members approached the leaders of their community, and after discussions with them, the woman lodged a complaint on the night of July 16," Aware said.An officer from the Pune Rural police said the local crime branch personnel joined the investigations, along with teams from different police stations. He said the rape survivor did not know the person, but she gave a detailed description of the man."Based on that, a sketch of the suspect was drawn. The teams also collected CCTV footage from the area. With the help of the sketch and our informants, we traced Shirke in Maval taluka and arrested him," the officer said.
