Heavy rainfall, landslide risk in Himachal Pradesh, alert issued; 250 roads remain blocked | Chandigarh News - Times of India

Shimla: The weather department has issued an orange alert warning for several parts of Himachal Pradesh in the coming days, even as over 200 roads across the state remained blocked on Friday.The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has issued the orange alert for three days from July 21, predicting "heavy to very heavy rainfall" in parts of Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur districts of the state. The Met has also warned of the possibility of landslides, mudslides, and flash floods.The Met has also issued a yellow alert for July 20 in parts of Bilaspur, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur districts.So far this month, Mandi district has received the highest rainfall of 357.7 mm - 76% more than the normal 203.7 mm rain. Mandi is followed by Sirmaur (297.6 mm), Kangra (220.3 mm), Una (200.4 mm), and Shimla (200.2 mm). Overall, the state received an average rainfall of 128.5 mm from July 1 to 18.Meanwhile, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 250 roads remained blocked in the state on Friday, with the highest 178 roads in the flood-hit Mandi district.Power and water supply also remained disrupted in many areas as 81 transformers remained dysfunctional and 61 water supply schemes were yet to be restored.The death toll in Himachal Pradesh has reached 110 since the onset of the monsoon on June 20. Also, 35 people remain missing and are presumed dead; 199 people suffered injuries.The state has also incurred a loss of Rs 1,220.38 crore so far during this monsoon so far, read the SEOC report.
