Patna: The shooters involved in the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra are still at large, even 24 hours after the brazen crime. Police have identified all five who shot Chandan at a private hospital in the state capital on the morning of July 17, but they couldn't trace their location so far. Two separate FIRs were registered in the matter on the statements of Chandan's father, Durgesh Mishra, and the hospital administration at Shastrinagar police station. Police said it appeared that the murder of Mishra was orchestrated by his rival Onkarnath, alias Sheru Singh, who is serving a life term at Purulia jail in West Bengal. "Sheru, whose gang is involved in the recent Ara jewellery showroom robbery, suspected that Mishra was informing the police about his members. Several of his associates were also killed in the recent past," a police officer said.According to the official sources, Patna police identified the main shooter as Tausif Badshah from Phulwarisharif, on the basis of the primary investigation and footage. "Patna police also sent the names of two criminals to their Buxar counterpart suspecting their involvement in the murder. Among them, one was identified as Monu Singh from Belaur in Industrial police station area. Technical investigation also confirmed that Singh was present in Patna at the time of the murder. The other shooter was identified as Balwant Singh from Buxar," said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity.Following the revelation of their involvement, Buxar police conducted raids throughout the district on Friday. Meanwhile, a suspicious SUV was stopped, and three people were detained, but despite hours of questioning, the police could not find any solid evidence against them.Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma said that all the shooters have been identified. "The main shooter, who was leading the gang, was identified as Taushif, while the other two were identified as Monu and Balwant of Buxar. The other two are also from Buxar, but their names can not be revealed as it could affect the probe," he said. The SSP added Taushif was well aware of the hospital and acquainted with the security guards as he visited the place several times. "Recently, he visited the place while his cousin was admitted there. The shooters were also aware of the hospital due to the sharing of photos, videos and other information on social media by Chandan's friends and family. On the morning of July 16 also, information about his operation was shared. Raids are being carried out at the suspicious locations to nab the culprits," Sharma said, adding that the probe so far revealed the involvement of the Sheru gang in the killing. "Sheru seems to have orchestrated the entire conspiracy from Purulia jail," he said.The police sources said that sharing all the information on social media made it easy for the criminals to find out that Chandan was admitted to room 209 of the hospital.Chandan had applied for parole from the Patna high court for his treatment, but the court directed that he be treated in police custody. The police first admitted him to AIIMS-Patna, where doctors treated him and suggested an operation. However, Chandan expressed a desire to undergo a laser surgery, which the AIIMS doctors refused. He then applied for parole again, and the HC granted it for 15 days.
