The Resistance Front (TRF), the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) front and proxy responsible for the Pahalgam tourist massacre, has been designated a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) and specially designated global terrorist by the US State Department. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar posted on X that he appreciates the State Department for this development, saying TRF was responsible for the Pahalgam attack that took place on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 civilians. India will never tolerate terrorism, he said. Jaishankar also said India will continue its relationship with international partners to hold terrorist groups and their affiliates responsible for their actions. India has always been in favour of global corporation when it comes to a fight between two nations or terrorism. Designating TRF marks a significant step in strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation between India and the United States, he added. The TRF has also claimed several responsibilities for attacking Indian security forces, including when LeT was behind the Mumbai attack, also referred to as the 26/11 attack. The attack took place in November 2008, when 10 LeT members attacked with guns and bombs for four days in Mumbai, killing over 175 people and injuring over 300 people. India had long urged the inclusion of TRF in UN Security Council statements, but its proposals were consistently blocked by Pakistan. In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, carried out during US Vice President JD Vance's visit, US President Donald Trump was the first foreign leader to express solidarity with Prime Minister Modi. The US Department has reviewed and reaffirmed LeT status as FTO, and said that such designation would take effect upon their publication in the federal register. The department emphasized that FTO listing is a vital element of US counter-terrorism policy, aimed at disrupting support for terrorist activities and compelling organizations to cease their involvement in the terrorism.
