Madhya Pradesh: Two Labourers Trapped Under Soil While Digging For Sewer Line, Die

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Two labourers died when they were trapped while digging for a sewer line in Shahdol city after soil caved in, police said. Sohagpur police station in-charge Bhupendra Mani Pandey said that the incident took place around 1.30 pm in ward number 1 of the city. As soon as the labourers were trapped in the soil they raised alarm. Local residents rushed to save them and also tried to give them ropes, so that they can be pulled out. But they got trapped under the soil. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police team reached the spot and tried to rescue the two using a JCB machine, the police said. After relentless effort, they were able to take out the first body after four hours. Later the body of another labourer was taken out. The deceased were identified as Mukesh Baiga (36) and Dadu Baiga (37), both residents of village Kotma. The wet soil following a spell of heavy rain had made the job difficult, Pandey added. A Gujarat-based company was carrying out the work of laying a sewer line, he said.
