Mangaluru: A 60-year-old man was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant near Sauthadka Gundi, located in Kokkada village of Dharmasthala police limits, about 70 km from Mangaluru. The victim, Balakrishna, a resident of Sautadka, was reportedly attacked between 11 am and 12 noon on Thursday. The elephant attack proved fatal, leading to his death. His body was later shifted to the Belthangady Government Hospital for post-mortem. Upon receiving information, Dharmasthala police, forest officials, and representatives from the local gram panchayat rushed to the scene to assess the situation. Dharmasthala Police have registered a case and initiated further legal proceedings.

Six people, including four members of a family, were killed after a herd of elephants stormed into Ango Gondwar village under Churchu block of Hazaribagh district in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, officials said. Panamaram/ Wayanad: A day-long operation to drive three wild elephants back into the forest concluded by evening on Friday, after the animals strayed into human settlements in Panamaram, Wayanad.
