Police suspect control over a 100-acre Bhoodan land in Kuntloor may be the trigger for the killing. The deceased, who was CPI state council member, was implicated in two murder cases, including one registered at the Nagole police station. Police have identified the accused allegedly involved in the murder as Rajesh, Edukondalu, Prashant and others.Chandu Naik and Rajesh were friends till two years ago, but fell apart after the latter allegedly started collecting money from hut dwellers in the Bhoodan land by offering to provide them pattas. However, Naik opposed it, resulting in a strain in their relations. Rajesh was expelled from CPI-ML (Liberation) Telangana unit while serving as their state general secretary in 2022. Naik named in two murder cases, one still under trialAround 6.30 am, Naik left his residence in Chaitanyapuri with his wife K Nari Bai, 45, and their daughter, K Sindhu, 25, for a morning walk at the park in adjacent Shalivahana Nagar.Around 7.20 am, the trio completed their walk and exited the park. As Nari and Sindhu started walking towards their home, Naik, speaking with friends, indicated that he would return later.A little later, as he was awaiting for his friend's arrival at his parked two-wheeler, three assailants arrived in a car and threw chilli powder at him. "Stung by the attack, he came running back towards the park and fell in front of the gate. The assailants fired at him from close range," Naveen, a local who was near the park, told TOI .After firing multiple rounds, the three accused entered their hatchback and a fourth accomplice drove them towards Malakpet. Police were alerted. "I was about to remove my shoes and my husband's friend, J Anjaiah, came running. He said my husband was shot at. My daughter and I immediately ran to the spot," Nari Bai stated. The Malakpet police cordoned off the crime scene and deployed the CLUES Team to gather evidence.3 bullet injuries"Assailants came in a Swift and shot him dead. We have seized three empty shells and two live rounds, all of 7.65 mm calibre, from the scene. All of them seem to have been fired from the same kind of weapon. Prima facie it appears that there was personal rivalry between Naik and the accused. Ten teams are looking for the accused," DCP (South East) Chaitanya Kumar said. Police said they found three bullet injuries on the body, two just below the chest on the right and one in the head above the right ear.In her complaint to police, Nari Bai alleged Rajesh and his associates harboured a grudge against Naik for exposing their alleged extortion from hut dwellers. Police have registered a case under Sections 103(1) (Murder), 61 (2) (Criminal conspiracy ),115 (1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of the Arms Act against Rajesh and others.Police said Naik was charged in two murder cases registered in the state. The recent murder case was registered at LB Nagar PS in 2022 and, following the reorganisation of police stations, it is currently with Nagole PS."An MRPS activist, Bhanu Chander, was bludgeoned to death in an open area near Motkur in 2022 by the followers of Naik. Five persons were named accused and Naik was accused number two. The case is pending trial," Nagole inspector A Surya Nayak said.
