Krishnanagar: Eight residents of Thanarpara in Nadia who went to Chhattisgarh to work as construction workers in Bastar and were jailed by Chhattisgarh police as suspected Bangladeshis on July 12, were packed into buses and sent back to Bengal on Tuesday. Krishnagar MP Mahua Maitra raised the issue on X and pointed out that Chhattisgarh police "illegally kidnapped" them.According to their family, Chhattisgarh police released the workers on Tuesday and they were pushed into a bus to return to Nadia. In a video on X, Moitra said she asked Chhattisgarh DGP Arun Dev Gautam whether he was aware of what his force was doing. "They put them in illegal detention. You have released them and you are shoving them into buses to push them into Bengal. They're not criminals. They have every right to be in whichever state they want to be. You have no right to throw them out of the territory of Chhattisgarh. I hope you realise this because if you don't I'm going to take you to court," the MP said.However, the families at Thanarpara and Mathurapur are worried and most of the aged parents of the workers want their children to be back in the state and work locally. "We are worried about the situation in Chhattisgarh. We want him to come here and stay permanently," said Margia Bibi, the mother of Sahabul, one of the detained workers. Sahabul's father, Adam Sheikh, also wants his son to work in Bengal. Dalia Khatun, wife of Sahin, said, "He went to Chhattisgarh 19 days ago. Police detained him on Saturday. He works as a mason there. He called me over the phone on Monday night after being released. I told him to come back permanently." Bachena Bibi, another resident, said, "There are around 17 youths from Thanarpara and Mathurapur in Chhattisgarh and they mostly work as construction workers."
