Batala: The police here on Tuesday claimed to have arrested five operatives associated with the notorious Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, which is currently being operated by its USA-based associate Husandeep Singh.Two firearms -- a PX5 pistol and a .32 bore pistol -- were also recovered from the possession of the arrested operatives identified as Lovepreet Singh; Sikandar Kumar alias Gola; and Onkarpreet alias Jashan -- all residents of Shahabad village in Batala; Gagandeep alias Giani, a resident of Gandhi Camp, Batala; and Mehakpreet Singh, a resident of Amritsar.Suhail Qasim Mir, senior superintendent of police, Batala, said preliminary probe revealed that gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, currently lodged in Silchar jail in Assam, conspired to carry out a target killing of a rival gang member to avenge the recent murder of his mother. Jaggu's mother, Harjit Kaur, and his close aide, Karanvir, were shot dead in Batala on June 27.
