Mumbai, Jul 15 (PTI) Shashikant Shinde, who was appointed the state unit chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), on Tuesday said he would work day and night to bring the party back to power in the state by focusing on strengthening its base. He would soon conduct an extensive tour of the state, Shinde said, adding that he would target the government over its wrong policies. Shinde, a former Maharashtra minister and MLC, was on Tuesday named the new president of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) state unit, replacing Jayant Patil. Talking to reporters after being given the new role, he said, "I will be touring Maharashtra in the coming month, and through this outreach, efforts will be made to give new and young individuals a chance in the party organisation. The aim is to work day and night to bring the party back to power in the state." "I will raise my voice against the wrong policies of the government and hit the streets in protest whenever required," he added. Shinde remembered former party leader and home minister late R R Patil while expressing his commitment to work at the grassroots level. "Even though many senior leaders were eligible, I was given the responsibility of becoming the party's state unit president. I will try to do justice to the opportunity. R R Patil showed how a common leader can perform when given a chance. I will strive to work in his footsteps," he said. On the current trends in politics, Shinde said, "Politics today is changing.
