Noida: The Supreme Court, while hearing a plea - related to a March 25 order of the Allahabad High Court - alleging harassment while feeding of stray dogs in a community in Noida said, "There is space for these animals... but no space for humans. Should we leave every lane, every road, open for these large-hearted people? Why don't you feed them in your house,"a bench comprising of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta said on Tuesday. The SC came down heavy on the petitioner and said "We will give you that suggestion... open a shelter in your own house. Feed every dog in the community in your own house." The petitioner had claimed that the civic body had created such places in Greater Noida but not in Noida. The petitioner had said they were not allowed to feed the dogs, in violation of the Animal Birth Control Rules. "You go on cycling in the morning?" the bench asked, "Try doing it and see what happens". The counsel responded saying he goes on morning walks and sees several dogs, the bench said, "Morning walkers are also at risk. Cycle riders and two-wheelers are at greater risk." The bench then tagged the plea with a separate pending plea on a similar issue. What Are Animal Birth Control Rules? The Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023 address the feeding of stray animals and place the responsibility on Resident Welfare Associations, Apartment Owners' Associations, or representatives of the local body to make necessary arrangements for feeding community animals residing within the premises or locality.
