KASARAGOD: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the murder of NRI businessman MC Abdul Gafoor of Poochakkad in Kasaragod on Thursday arrested four persons in connection with the case. The arrested persons have been identified as Ubaid, 38, of Melparamab, his wife Shamima, 38, who was allegedly practising black magic, Asneefah, 34, and Aisha, 40. Police said Gafoor, owner of multiple enterprises in the Gulf, was a victim of black magic. The man was found dead at his home on April 14, 2023. Believing that it was a natural death, his family buried the body the same day as per the religious customs. However, his sudden death raised suspicion when relatives found that around 596 sovereigns of gold ornaments were missing. Later, Gafoor's son Ahammed Muzammil lodged a complaint with the Bekal police seeking a probe and an 11-member SIT was formed. The police team exhumed the body and identified that head injury caused the death. The SIT analysed the phone call details and WhatsApp messages of the victim, which pointed to the involvement of Shamima. "It was a planned robbery allegedly using black magic. Gafoor had been lured into believing that his wealth could be doubled through black magic performed by Shamima, who is known by the name 'Jinnumma'. They convinced him to bring his gold for a black magic practice. Later, they murdered him to avoid returning the gold," police said.
