Bhubaneswar: Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has announced a candlelight vigil this evening and a gherao of Lok Seva Bhawan on July 16 to protest the death of Soumyashree Bisi, a 20-year-old B.Ed student at Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore, who succumbed to severe burn injuries on July 14 following an alleged self-immolation attempt. Senior BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra has demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the incident. The party has also called for the resignation of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, holding them morally responsible for the circumstances leading to the student's death.
