Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress government in the state, holding it responsible for the severe water crisis affecting the state's farming community for the deliberate negligence in releasing of water through the canals of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, which he termed a lifeline for agriculture in the state. In a statement, Rama Rao said that the frustration was building up among the farming community with prevailing drought conditions and deliberate delay on the part of the government to release water through canals. In a strongly worded statement, Rama Rao emphasised that the ongoing distress in Telangana's agricultural sector was not due to natural calamities but due to the result of policy failures and inaction by the Congress government. Rama Rao blamed the Congress for intentionally withholding the release of Kaleshwaram waters, leaving farmers in despair. "It is not water but the tears of farmers that are flowing in the canals," he lamented, highlighting the emotional and economic toll on rural communities. He contrasted the current situation with the decade-long BRS rule, during which, he said, agriculture in Telangana was transformed from a state of crisis to celebration. Rama Rao accused the Congress government of ignoring urgent repairs at Medigadda and failing to operate the Kannepalli pump house, despite clear opportunities to restore irrigation. Women are once again forced to fetch water in pots, not only for drinking but also to save their crops, he said.
