Kanpur: The city echoed with the chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' as devotees started thronging Shiv temples since Sunday midnight for offering prayers on the first Monday of Shrawan month. Over half a kilometre long queue of devotees was witnessed at the Anandeshwar temple, Parmat, at midnight. The temple doors opened around 2am after Mangala Aarti. According to the temple management committee, around one lakh devotees visited the temple on the first Monday. Around 250 volunteers of Anandeshwar Vyapari committee offered their services for crowd management. The district administration made elaborate arrangements for crowd management and security with installation of around 200 CCTV cameras at the temple premises. Similar scenes were witnessed at Jageshwar temple, Sidhanath temple and Bankhandeshwar temple. Devotees assembled at the temples since early hours on Monday morning and the influx of visitors continued till late evening. Several devotees took holy dip in the Ganga and collected Gangajal for jalabhishek of Lord Shiv. All major ghats, including Dyodhi Ghat, Sarsaiya Ghat, Parmat Ghat and Atal Ghat remained crowded. Adequate number of policemen were deployed at each ghat to control the crowd and prevent them from going deep into the river. Divers and river police were also deployed at the ghats for the safety of the devotees.There are around 257 Shiv temples in the city and almost all the temples remained crowded throughout the day. The district administration made elaborate security arrangements at all the prominent Shiv temples of the city. To accommodate the advocates on this occasion the judiciary did not pass any adverse order in any case at Kanpur court.
