Chennai, July 14 (UNI) For the first time in Tamil Nadu political history, the ruling DMK headed by Chief Minister MK Stalin today appointed a quarter of IAS officers as the government's spokespersons to disseminate key information and developments in various Departments through the media, ahead of the crucial Assembly polls due in 8-9 months time. The quartet comprises senior IAS officers J Radhakrishnan, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Dheeraj Kumar and P Amutha, an official release said. This comes at a time when the assembly elections are less than 10 months away. Earlier the Government has constituted a fake news checking unit to counter disinformation even though there exists the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR). This the first time that Tamil Nadu is having bureaucrats as spokespersons for the government. The appointment of these four as spokespersons is seen as part of the government to reach out to the people with timely and accurate information through media briefings by coordinating with other Departments. Each of the four has been allotted a bunch of Departments and the Secretaries of the Departments concerned will provide information to them pertaining to the announcements and developments. Being senior bureaucrats, all the four have wide experience in the administration, having handled various responsibilities. While Radhakrishnan will handle among others School Education, Health and Family Welfare, Energy. Food and Consumer Protection and Human Resources Management, Bedi has been assigned Rural Development, Municipal Administration, Industries and Commerce, Fisheries and Dairying. Dheeraj Kumar will look after Home, Prohibition and Excise while Amudha has been entrusted with Revenue, Disaster Management, Social Welfare and Women Empowerment as well as Special Programmes Implementation.
