Varanasi: Jaunpur SP Kaustubh on Friday late night suspended three policemen, including Mungra Badshahpur police station in charge, while a revenue officer faced similar action directed by district magistrate. Cases were filed against both constables and the revenue officer for threatening a petitioner to withdraw a plea filed in high court and for bribery related to a land dispute involving village society land.Talking to TOI on Saturday, the SP said police inspector Dilip Kumar Singh and constables Pankaj Maurya and Nitish Gaur were suspended with immediate effect, while revenue officer Vijay Shankar was suspended by the DM. Later, FIR was lodged in the case of threatening to withdraw petition filed in high court and bribery allegations. A thorough investigation began into their role in connection with allegations that they threatened Gaurishankar Saroj, resident of Badagaon, who filed a petition in high court in May against encroachment on gram samaj land, to withdraw the case. The court sought a reply from the police officials concerned.Saroj alleged that on May 17, constables Pankaj Maurya and Nitish Gaur, along with revenue officer Vijay Shankar, raided his house and threatened him to withdraw petition. They also held his grandson, Rajneesh Saroj, but released him after a bribe of Rs 2,000. Saroj made the court aware of these developments through his lawyer and statements from Saroj and his grandson Rajneesh were recorded.On Jul 8, court ordered SP Jaunpur to appear before it on Jul 9 with all necessary details and information related to the case. The SP appeared before the court on Jul 9. However, before the SP could reach the court, inspector Dilip Kumar Singh, along with his aides, reached Badagaon to pressurise the plaintiff to withdraw the case. Saroj and his family were threatened in the absence of their lawyer, who presented an affidavit before the court regarding this incident. The court has asked SP Jaunpur and UP home secretary to present affidavits on Jul 15 regarding such incidents.
