Mysuru (Karnataka), Jul 12 (PTI) A 38-year-old man who is booked under sections of the POCSO Act has been attacked along with his family members, allegedly by the victim's family in Mysuru while they were riding an auto rickshaw, police said on Saturday. The incident occurred on Thursday night on Ramanuja Road when the accused, along with his wife, sister and mother, were returning home after visiting a police station in connection with the case, they said. The attack was purportedly captured on CCTV cameras and mobile phones, and the visuals soon went viral. The videos show that people who came in a black car forced the autorickshaw to stop, following which they attacked the accused and his family members sitting in the autorickshaw with knives. The 38-year-old man who is accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in 2023 and booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and his family members sustained injuries and were later discharged after treatment at a hospital here, a senior police officer said. The man was arrested in the case in 2024 and was later released on bail the same year, police said. Based on the statement of the injured accused, a case of attempt to murder has been registered at Krishnaraja police station, he said. The police suspect the attack could be a result of disputes over settling the ongoing POCSO case, and that the matter is in court. "We suspect the involvement of four people, from the girl's family side. The accused in this case have been absconding since the incident.
