According to vendors, the annual surge in demand for fruits during religious observances and family celebrations is further intensified by supply chain disruptions and higher transportation costs.At Hinoo Chowk, the price of apples has increased from Rs 190 to Rs 200 per kg. Washington apples, which were earlier selling at Rs 240-250 per kg, are now priced at Rs 250-260 per kg. The cost of bananas has gone up from Rs 55-60 to Rs 60-70 per dozen, depending on the size and quality.Pomegranates, previously priced at Rs 140 per kg, are now being sold at Rs 150-Rs 160 per kg. Cost of pears have increased from Rs 130 to Rs 140-Rs 150 per kg, and guavas have risen from Rs 130 to Rs 150 per kg. Mangoes in particular, have seen a hike from Rs 140 to Rs 150-Rs 160 per kg. Sweet lime has also gone up to Rs 150-Rs 160 per kg, from last week's Rs 140.Seasonal fruits like watermelon and muskmelon have also seen a Rs 5-Rs 10 rise due to reduced supply and sustained demand."The demand always rises during festivals, and we try to keep enough stock.
