Vadodara: The Gambhira bridge over the Mahi in Padra taluka of Vadodara district collapsed on Wednesday due to 'crushing of pedestal and articulation joints', Gujarat govt spokesman Rushikesh Patel said on Friday, citing the preliminary investigation report.The death toll from the collapse touched 20, with two more bodies recovered from the river while one victim died at SSG Hospital in Vadodara."According to the preliminary report, the bridge collapsed due to the crushing of the pedestal and articulation joints. The committee will submit a detailed report in 30 days, and decisions will be taken based on its findings," said Patel, who visited the accident site on Friday.He said that Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday suspended four officials of the roads and buildings department for "negligence"."Wherever lapses came to light, action was taken.
