New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will conduct an inquiry after a building collapsed in Sadar Bazar, killing one person. The location falls within the influence zone of the ongoing tunnelling work being carried out for the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor. "The building was already identified as unsafe prior to the commencement of tunnelling work in the area and evacuated by DMRC. Additionally, necessary subsoil grouting and external supports were provided at the site to stabilise the structures and mitigate any risk due to tunnelling," said Anuj Dayal, principal executive director (corporate communication). "Tunnelling work is being executed by M/s AFCONS. A thorough investigation shall be carried out by DMRC." Acknowledging that a hole was formed in the ground of nearby godown/shop no. 19 on Qutub Road, Dayal said, "The hole created has already been filled, and the shopkeeper has been assured of suitable compensation as soon as he submits the assessment of his loss on Saturday." DMRC said all such cases were being examined and immediate precautionary steps taken. It assured that following a detailed technical assessment of any damage, suitable remedial measures, including compensation, were adopted as per the protocols.
