Bengaluru: Following the delay in the announcement of seat matrices for courses such as medical and dental, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is considering holding a preliminary round before the actual first round for courses whose matrices are available. The seat matrices for engineering, veterinary, agriculture, bachelor of physiotherapy, and allied health science courses have been released. Option entry has been initiated, and candidates can enter their choices through the official link.Meanwhile, the seat matrices for medical, dental, Ayurveda, homeopathy, Unani, BSc nursing, architecture, and yoga & naturopathy courses haven't yet been released by the concerned departments. Usually, counselling is held simultaneously for all courses, and students have the freedom to give a mix of all courses during the time of option entry. KEA is considering whether one round can be held for students who are very sure of the course they want to join. "Around 20% of students are very sure of what they want. We're contemplating whether a round can be held exclusively catering to them. With this, only choice 1 will be activated in this round," said H Prasanna, executive director of KEA. In the counselling process, once a seat is allotted to a student, there are four choices. Choice 1 is for the student who likes the seat and wants to join. In choice 2, students can participate in the second round of counselling by holding the allotted seat. In choice 3, the student can participate in the second round without holding any seat. With choice 4, students who aren't satisfied can exit. So, the preliminary round is meant only for students who want to exercise choice 1. KEA website continues to malfunction On Friday, the KEA website malfunctioned on the second straight day. It kept displaying the message that the option-entry portal was under maintenance. The time when the website would be functional again also kept being postponed. KEA said the issue is with the state data centre. "The data centre is down. Our team is working with the e-governance department," said Prasanna. "We were allotted 10 servers. Five of these were malfunctioning," he said. Following the malfunctioning, KEA extended the dates for option entry till July 18 from the earlier July 15. "Students should make a rough draft of the colleges and courses they want to choose on a paper and not log in for a long time in the website," KEA said in a press release late evening.Students and their guardians, meanwhile, were left exasperated. "This time, KEA charged Rs 750 upfront for participating in counselling. Even then, there has been no improvement in service. If the server is the issue, they should think about an alternative well in advance. There is no planning or vision in the govt departments," said a parent.
