Raipur: Dhudmaras, the picturesque tribal hamlet nestled in the wooded hills of Kanger Valley National Park in Chhattisgarh, has become the first fully solar powered village in Bastar. The village, which has recently been recognized as the 20 top global villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, is now powered by solar energy lighting the streetlights and the lanes of the hamlet by the Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA). Three solar energy powered dual pumps, installed in the village, provide safe drinking water. Two solar high-mast towers flood light in the village after dusk, while the primary and secondary schools in the village have been given solar power supply. The top officials of CREDA monitor the solar energy facilities in the village to ensure their effective functioning, a spokesman of the Chhattisgarh government said on Friday. The village has already emerged as the eco-tourism destination with the environment lovers and adventure seekers pouring into it to enjoy the kayaking and bamboo rafting on the Kanger Valley River, the diverse wildlife and the wooded hills of the national park. Basic amenities such as shelter sheds and toilets have been built to make the tourists' visit to the village comfortable. The state government has developed infrastructure such as trekking trails, camping sites and homestay facilities in the village to attract the tourists. The artisans in the village in Bastar district are being able to market their traditional crafts to the tourists, which has boosted their economy, the spokesman said.
