Mumbai: The Maharashtra legislative Council on Thursday witnessed pandemonium over a demand of 50 per cent reservation in housing for locals in Mumbai. The House had to be adjourned after minister Shabhuraj Desai and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab targeted each other with inappropriate comments, which were expunged later. The issue was raised by Shiv Sena (UBT), to which minister Desai responded asking why no such decision was taken when Uddhav Thackeray was the CM. This led to the intense verbal alteration between the minister and Mr. Parab. The House was adjourned for 10 minutes. Later, Mr. Desai said that the government will take action against the unruly developers and builders who refuse to sell a flat to Marathi speaking people. The Minister also said that priority would be given to Marathi speaking people in all new rehabilitation projects. The Minister also said that a discussion will be held with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar to formulate a policy on giving preference to Marathi people in Housing. Post this, a policy will be drafted. During question hour in the Upper House, Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Milind Narvekar raised a question about 50 per cent reservation for Marathi people as they are being refused properties because they eat non veg foods. Participating in the discussion, Mr Parab demanded to enact a law for this. "40 per cent reservation should be implemented for Marathi speaking people for houses in new redevelopment projects and buildings under government schemes," he said. In response to the query, Mr Desai sarcastically said that the Uddhav Thackeray-led government had not implemented the reservation for houses for Marathi speaking people. "Why is Shiv Sena (UBT) now pretending to be well wishers of Marathi speaking people?" he asked. After this, Mr Parab used inappropriate and indecent words for Mr Desai and the minister returned the favour.
