Lucknow: The state govt on Thursday set the deadline of July 31 for farmers to get their crops insured under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme (PMCIS).A state govt spokesperson said that farmers can contact the crop insurance helpline number 14447 for compensation or claims, as well as assistance in registration and guidance regarding documents. Farmers are required to pay 2% of the insurance premium for Kharif crops, while the remaining amount is paid by the central and state govt. Agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi appealed to the farmers to take advantage of the insurance scheme.PMCIS is operated to compensate farmers in case of sowing. This scheme provides protection to farmers from crop damage. Its main objective is to keep the income of farmers stable. This scheme is being implemented in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Registration can be done on www.pmfby.gov.in.Farmers are required to furnish their Aadhar card, Khatauni, bank passbook, and other details of the crop to get their crops insured. Registration can also be done by self on the crop insurance bank, common service centre, or online portal www.pmfby.gov.in.Currently, the notified crops (paddy, jowar, millet, maize, urd, moong, arhar, peanuts, soybean, and sesame) in the district can be insured until July 31.
